The President had earlier signed Executive Order No. 155 which provided for price regulation through the imposition of MRP (maximum retail price) and MWP (maximum wholesale price) on the remaining medicines and drugs under EO 104.

On Wednesday, Go said that he expected more Filipinos to have access to affordable medicines now that the President has signed an EO adding more drugs and medicines that would be subject to a price cap.

The senator, who chaired the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, said that he’s thankful to President Duterte for approving the recommendation to strengthen Filipino’s access to cheaper medicines, especially during the pandemic.

The drugs covered by the EO included those which addressed chronic disorders such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, hypertension, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as immunosuppressant drugs for glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease, and skin concerns, among others.

Also, the said EO required every manufacturer, distributor, importer, trader, wholesaler, or retailer of the covered medicines or drugs intended for sale to display the retail price.

To recall, it was last February 2020 when the President signed EO 104 regulating the MWP and MRP on selected medicines and drugs totaling 87 drug molecules or 133 drug formulas.

Manila Bulletin reported that EO 155 would be imposed on 34 drug molecules and 71 drug formulas.

Daming nawalan ng trabaho at hanapbuhay. Ngayon pa lang nakakabangon. Kaya malaking bagay ito para sa mga apektadong Pilipino,” Go said.
