Last May, Robredo explained why she changed her residency from Naga City to Magarao in Camarines Sur.

According to her, she needed to move her residency from her hometown of Naga City to the nearby Barangay Carangcang in Magarao, Camarines Sur because of the properties left to them by her parents and not because of her political plans.

Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, when Leni’s mother died last year before the pandemic, that left her and her siblings some properties outside of Naga City.

However, those properties were very far from Naga and so she “overruled” her siblings and decided to build a family home in the nearby municipality of Magarao, which was just 8 kilometers from Naga City.

At that time, Robredo clarified that the move to Magarao wasn’t because she planned to run as governor of Camarines Sur and Naga residents can’t vote and run for a local post outside the city.
