1Sambayan convenor Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio said that the coalition followed a “rigorous process” in reaching the decision as it encouraged Robredo to accept the endorsement.

According to Carpio, the possibility of the Vice President declining 1Sambayan’s nomination for the 2022 elections was a “very remote possibility”.

As early as June 2021, the opposition coalition announced that Robredo was one of the personalities it had been eyeing to hold the torch for the opposition for next year’s elections.

Meanwhile, Robredo had asked her supporters to pray for her as she plotted her next political move, thanking 1Sambayan for nominating her as their presidential candidate for the 2022 elections.

The Vice President hinted that it would be challenging for her to decide if she would run for president next year as a lot of responsibility fell on the sitting president.

In light of this, she’s seeking prayer in the next few days to make an informed choice.

Nevertheless, the Vice President said that it’s a great honor to be chosen by 1Sambayan.
