According to the human rights lawyer and incumbent chairman of Bayan Muna, his candidacy is endorsed by the Makabayan Coalition.

Colmenares is one of the members of “Manlaban sa EJK”, an advocacy group composed of several lawyers and law students.

Aside from that, he’s also the representative on behalf of families of victims of extrajudicial killing in a complaint before the International Criminal Court.

It was in 2019 when Colmenares joined the senatorial race but failed to clinch a spot in the Magic 12.

Neri Colmenares is the nephew of actress Angel Locsin or Angelica Locsin Colmenares in real life, although he is 25 years older than her. Angel is 36-years-old while Neri is 61.

Angel’s father and Neri’s dad are related but there are no further details about them.

Meanwhile, among those who have shown interest in running for the 2022 elections in the senatorial slate are Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Former Vice President Jejomar Binay, Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

On the other hand, among those who recently announced their presidential bid are Senators Manny Pacquiao, Ping Lacson, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

The filing of certificates of candidacies will be from October 1 up to October 8, 2021, while the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022.

The 2022 election is scheduled to be held on May 9.
