Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque insisted that President Rodrigo Duterte wasn’t suffering from any major ailment after his unstable walk and breathlessness during his last State of the Nation Address raised eyebrows.

Roque said during his press briefing that there’s nothing wrong with President Duterte’s health as he just slipped because the carpet at Congress was slippery.

Wala pong problema sa kalusugan ng ating Presidente. Medyo nadulas lang po siya kasi kung titingnan ‘nyo ‘yung tape, lumingon din siya. Madulas po talaga ‘yung carpet do’n sa Kongreso,” Roque said.

But Rappler reported that President Duterte said in an interview with DZBB that he slipped while entering the Session Hall of Batasang Pambansa because someone had stepped on his feet.

Also, President Duterte denied rumors that he went to the hospital on the day of his last State of the Nation Address. The President then gave assurances that the public has no reason to worry about his health.

Meanwhile, Roque said that President Duterte even had strength after the State of the Nation Address to socialize with lawmakers and other officials, calling some of them into the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office’s room at Batasan to talk.

Based on a report on Rappler, President Duterte said that he and Senator Bong Go headed to a restaurant after the SONA.

Throughout Duterte’s presidency, Malacañang had refused to issue medical bulletins about the state of his health, insisting that it wasn’t yet in the serious condition that would trigger the Constitution’s provision about mandatory public disclosure.
