The boat onboard the ABS-CBN news team was allegedly chased by Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
According to Chiara Zambrano’s report on Thursday, they went to the area due to reports that several hundred Chinese ships were scattered in the WPS.
They also wanted to interview fishermen in the area.
They were supposed to traverse to Ayungin Shoal because the Armed Forces of the Philippines have a detachment there.
But the Chinese Coast Guard allegedly radioed the boat they were on and asked in English who they were and what they are going to do in the area.
They did nothing but turn back to mainland Palawan and even though they were on their way home, they were chased by a white ship of the Chinese Coast Guard for another hour.
The white ship stopped but two smaller yet faster vessels followed them. The vessels were said to be armed with missiles.
According to her, they did not see the Philippine Coast Guard or Philippine Navy in the area at that time.
