Duterte Says He Will Take Responsibility if Anything Goes Wrong with Covid-19 Vaccines

Duterte on COVID-19 vaccines: “Whatever Secretary Galvez chooses would bind me”

President Rodrigo Duterte said in a taped message aired on Wednesday that he would take responsibility if anything goes wrong in the use of COVID-19 vaccines.

According to him, any vaccine against the coronavirus procured by his vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. tend to “bind him.”

“Whatever Secretary Galvez chooses would bind me,” he said. “It would be like I was the one who ought the vaccine. So I won’t buy a vaccine that’s not the right one,” he added

“Whatever Secretary Galvez chooses, whatever his responsibility is will also be my responsibility. Ultimately, actually, through all of this, if something goes wrong with what we in government choose and are negotiating for now, at the end of day, the responsibility is really mine,” the president stressed.

The country has already signed a deal for procurement of vaccines from the following drug companies; Sinovac BioTech in China, the Serum Institute in India, and AstraZeneca in England.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stressed on Monday that Filipino people should not choose the brand of the COVID-19 vaccine they will receive after the latest surveys show a lot of Filipinos are hesitant to receive the vaccine.

Roque explained that the individuals who were included on the vaccination priority list might lose their slot in the list if they would refuse to accept the vaccine. The recipients can sign a waiver if they don’t want to receive the vaccine assigned to them.
