On Monday, January 11, the Malacañang Palace said that the Filipinos can’t choose the COVID-19 vaccine brand they would receive from the Philippine government.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stressed that Filipino people should not choose the brand of the COVID-19 vaccine they will receive after the latest surveys show a lot of Filipinos are hesitant to receive the vaccine.

Roque explained that the individuals who were included on the vaccination priority list might lose their slot in the list if they would refuse to accept the vaccine. The recipients can sign a waiver if they don’t want to receive the vaccine assigned to them.

His statement earned the ire of several groups and personalities with some noting that people have the right to be ‘choosy‘ with the COVID-19 vaccine.

Among those who earlier reacted on the matter is Abang Lingkod Party-List Representative Joseph Stephen Paduano.

“At the end of the day, it is the Food and Drug Administration that will determine the right vaccines that should be made available to Filipinos, not Roque,” he said.

“The remarks of Roque reeks of insensitivity and arrogance. The least we can expect from him is to show remorse, and yet, none is coming,” he added.

“While we understand and sympathize with the Inter-Agency Task Force under Sec. (Carlito) Galvez for their hard work and eagerness to secure COVID-19 vaccines for the Filipino people the soonest time possible, we cannot turn deaf ears to cocky remarks,” he noted.

  1. It is ok to comment but first we should ask what Paduano has done to help the people. What Roque is we can’t be choosy for the vaccine approved by FDA. Nakikisawsaw lang yan wala naman naititulong
