How To Ride “King of The Road” Jeepney W/ Poise By R’Bonney Gabriel
R’BONNEY GABRIEL – Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel, whose father grew up amidst the lively streets of Malate, Manila, has been in the country since April 13, wholeheartedly immersing herself in the Filipino way of life while fulfilling her Miss Universe duties.
The Texan-born fashion designer recently went to Divisoria to procure fabrics and threads, where she acquainted herself with the customary negotiation technique with local vendors, referred to as “tawad.”
Prior to her jeepney escapade, R’Bonney Gabriel relished a two-day getaway in Bohol, exploring its beaches and admiring the iconic Chocolate Hills. Throughout her stay, she graced GMA shows like “TiktoClock” and “Eat Bulaga,” receiving delightful presents of her beloved foods such as ensaimadas and salted eggs.
R’Bonney Gabriel gained a firsthand understanding of the possibly daunting and rough ride of a jeepney. Despite the hurdles, she received acclaim from internet users for gracefully managing the journey, exhibiting the poise and sophistication expected of her title.
In a short Instagram video shared on May 8, the Filipino-American beauty queen humorously recounted her somewhat turbulent experience while riding the Philippines’ famous “King of the Road,” yet maintained her composure admirably.
Gabriel, in casual attire, held onto the ceiling-mounted handrail of the traditional vehicle.
In the caption of the post, she wrote, “When you’re terrified there’s no seatbelt in the jeepney and you don’t know what’s your stop so you just accept your fate.”
The beauty queen also humorously said in the caption, “I hit my head too,” accompanied by hashtags like “jeepney,” “jeepney ride,” and “diary of a Fil-Am.” Netizens appreciated her grounded demeanor, with a few providing humorous ideas on how the beauty queen could ask the driver to stop the jeepney.
