No recorded case of Brucellosis yet in the Philippines, according to DOH.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday assured the public that there’s still no recorded case of Brucellosis yet in the Philippines.

This, after reports said that thousands of people had contracted Brucellosis in China.

In a statement, the Department of Health said that there were documented reports of Brucellosis cases in China, adding that the Philippines had not reported any case of bacterial disease to this date.

The Department of Health also said that it also working with the ASEAN Biodiaspora Virtual Center, Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Animal Industry, Philippine Inter-Agency Committee on Zoonoses, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in order to ensure that cases of bacterial disease “do not go unreported in the country”.

“Kasalukuyan po kaming nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga designated office kung mayroong nai-record na kaso (ng Brucellosis) sa ating bansa”, the Department of Health said.

Citing the World Health Organization (WHO), the Department of Health explained that Brucellosis was a bacterial disease caused by different Brucella species, which mainly infected swine, cattle, sheep, goats, and dogs.

In addition, humans can contract the bacterial disease through direct contact with infected animals, by consuming contaminated animal products, or by “inhaling airborne agents”.

Some of its symptoms may include “fever, weakness, malaise, and weight loss”, according to World Health Organization.

According to Reuters report, more than 6,000 people in Lanzhou — capital of Northwest China’s Gansu Province — have contracted the bacterial disease.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health had reported that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines already reached 391,809 with more than 2,000 newly-reported cases as of 4:00 p.m. of November 6, 2020.
