According to him, when asked what differs him from former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and other lawmakers who served as Speaker of the House, aside from being the youngest elected Speaker at 42, he also has no intentions to run a national post.

“Ako naman kasi I don’t have any national ambitions. That’s the reason why I always remain in the background,” the House Speaker said.

“I think that’s one of the major differences sa inyong lingkod at sa other Speakers. I’m not so sure if they had national ambitions also but ako talaga, I’m just doing this for the sake of the country, for the sake of the President,” the incumbent speaker added.

Despite being elected as the Speaker of the House, replacing Cayetano, he prefers to work quietly and stay in the background.

He also stressed that it’s not yet part of his plans to run for a senatorial race in the 2022 elections if ever President Rodrigo Duterte includes him in the ticket.

Lord Allan Velasco noted that campaigning for a national position is “exhausting” citing his personal experience while observing the senatoriables under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago party in the previous elections.

Velasco reiterated that he still has a lot to do for his home province, Marinduque.

Meanwhile, more than 180 congressmen elected Velasco last October 12 in a “session” held in Quezon City and it was ratified at Batasan Pambansa, the following day.
