This, as Science Undersecretary Rowena Guevarra told ABS-CBN News in an interview that it might be possible for the country to have a vaccine against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in July 2021, adding that the clinical trials of 4 or 5 COVID-19 vaccines in over 200 Filipinos would start on September.

Guevarra’s response came after President Rodrigo Duterte previously announced that he hoped that the situation in the country would return to normal by December 2020 if China would give the vaccine to the Philippines.

Guevarra assured that the frontliners and “indigent senior” citizens would be given free COVID-19 vaccines first. Moreover, the Department of Science and Technology made sure that the government had a budget for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Earlier, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez mentioned that there’s a budget for the COVID-19 vaccine which will be given to 20 million poorest Filipinos.

The Department of Science and Technology responded to the experts’ warnings about the safety of vaccines from China, saying that these experts were researching all the developments of the COVID-19 vaccine and they’re looking at what was really good for the public.

However, experts repeatedly reminded the public to wear their face masks, exercise physical distancing, wash their hands regularly, and staying indoors if walking outside wasn’t important.
