Four (4) face shield scammers were arrested by the operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) over 50,000 face shields amounting to P1.8 million.

The suspects were identified as Raymund Manzanares, 42; his wife Vivien, 47; Krizia Allen Cay Mercurio, 32; and Christine Pitiquen, 33.

The victim named Vanessa Abajo- a businesswoman from Malasique, Pangasinan filed a complaint against the suspects at the MPD-Theft and Robbery Section that led to their apprehension.

According to her, she met a self-proclaimed “Quim” on Facebook who promised to supply her with 50,000 pieces of Heng De face shield.

She was then contacted by an alias Paul who gave instructions to go to a hotel near P. Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila.

The victim and her business partner then talked to a certain Jun Monzon and eventually gave him P1.8 million in cash.

They were told to wait for 48-hours for their order to arrive. They allegedly waited at the hotel for four days but no order arrived.

The victim and her business partner talked anew to the group of suspects to just return their money but they promised again and argued that the arrival of the cargo was only delayed.

The victim could not bear and has decided to ask for help from the MPD.

The four suspects are now detained in the MPD Detention Cell and may face charges in the Large Scale Estafa at the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.

  1. Lessons to be learned here. Why give 1.8 million to person/persons who you do not know and just met? Remember the patterns used. The couple met different people and met in an unfamiliar place. That’s a RED FLAG. And just rely on their word that the items are forthcoming. Are the victim not aware of the protocol? COD cash on delivery!!! What were they thinking? Hope they get their money back because those four scammers may be in jail but then the big problem is the money is still out there.
