Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz revealed the dark side of beauty pageants including indecent proposals and the stories about DOM or dirty old men.
In the new iWant series entitled “Beauty Queens,” Gloria Diaz opened up about the dark stories surrounding the local and international pageantry.
“Talagang maraming DOM (dirty old men) around,” she said. “In fact, I’d be surprised kung walang DOM or whatever. There’s always indecent proposals all over. Most of the beauty contestants almost expect it!,” she added.
And as a beauty queen, she said she just view it as a “compliment” and enjoy the attention given to her by the DOMs around her.
“When they’re around, it’s okay. It doesn’t insult me. I don’t feel pressured. I just enjoy the attention and I go on with it,” she explained.
She stressed: “it’s not mind-boggling or anything. Hindi ka naman binabastos, e, at walang pilitan.”
The 1969 Miss Universe jokingly said: “They all want to be on top of the universe!”
Gloria Diaz was the first Filipina to wear the crown at the prestigious Miss Universe pageant.
This is not the first time that a beauty queen exposed something about “indecent proposals” in beauty pageants.

Two months ago, former Binibining Pilipinas-World 2008 Janina San Miguel revealed the “indecent practices” during her reign in Bb. Pilipinas- that prompted her to quit- three months before she competes the Miss World pageant at the time.
Aside from indecent proposals, rigid standards of the contest organizers also prodded her to end her pageant stint.
