Statement of Malacañang on Proclamation of President-Elect Bongbong Marcos, VP-Elect Sara Duterte
MALACAÑANG – The Palace released a statement following the proclamation of president-elect Bongbong Marcos and vice-president-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio.
The canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice-presidential elections 2022 has concluded. Yesterday, at the House of Representatives, the elected president and vice president of the Republic of the Philippines were proclaimed.
Former Senator Bongbong Marcos is elected as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines. Presidential daughter and outgoing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is the next vice president of the country.
Marcos Jr.’s family was present at the proclamation while Duterte-Carpio was on her own. Several personalities and lawmakers approached them to congratulate them.
Following the proclamation of president-elect Bongbong Marcos and vice president-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio, Malacañang released a statement congratulating the next president and vice president of the country.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang also called on the Filipino people “to stand behind our newly elected leaders”. Acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar expressed that the proclamation ceremony at the Congress “marks another historic milestone in our political life as a nation underscoring” democracy.
According to Andanar, the Presidential Transition Committee will work closely with the camp of president-elect Bongbong Marcos for a peaceful, smooth, and orderly transfer of power.
The Presidential Spokesman said that the meeting date of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and president-elect Bongbong Marcos regarding the transition was yet to be set. Reportedly, Duterte-Carpio expressed that she has not talked to the President, her father, since August 2021.
Marcos Jr.’s camp started dropping the names of his appointees. He wants vice president-elect Duterte to lead the Department of Education (DepEd) which she accepted with gratitude. She vowed to implement education reforms in the field to hone Filipino children who are in the pursuit of reaching their full potential.
