SARA DUTERTE — The presumptive vice president has set her inauguration date in Davao City on June 19, 2022.
The outgoing Davao City mayor has set her inauguration date in the city on June 19, several days ahead of when her term as vice president starts on June 30.
In a statement, Mayor Sara indicated that she wanted to honor her fellow Davaoenos by making them actually witness her oath-taking as the country’s second-highest elected official.
Mayor Sara also said that the inauguration will be conducted earlier than the traditional June 30 event because she wants to attend the oathtaking of presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“While waiting for the proclamation, I already penciled in June 19 as the inauguration date in Davao City. The Dabawenyos’ patience made me the public servant that I am today, it is only fitting to honor them the opportunity to witness the oathtaking,” she said.
Mayor Sara’s term of office can only start at noon of June 30, as stated in the 1987 Constitution.

In previous elections, the president-elect and vice-president-elect are inaugurated successively on June 30.
However, President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo broke decades-long tradition after they held inauguration rites in separate venues in 2016 in order to adhere to the wishes of the Duterte camp.
Both Mayor Sara and Bongbong are way ahead of other candidates in the tallies of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as the two are poised for a landslide victory based on COMELEC’s partial, unofficial count.
Preparations are being made for the next administration.
