If the petition succeeds, Raffy Tulfo may no longer run for senator in the 2022 elections
RAFFY TULFO – Someone who claimed to be the wife of the veteran broadcaster filed a petition at the Commission on Elections to cancel his senate bid.
Many showbiz personalities are trying their luck in the upcoming elections. One of their primary reasons for venturing into politics is to expand their platform in helping others.
Among those who filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are Bobby Andrews, Angelu de Leon, Nash Aguas, Ejay Falcon and to name a few.
Adding to the list of celebrities-turned-election hopefuls is no less than Raffy Tulfo, a well-known anchor on television and radio.
But on Thursday, November 18 Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez disclosed that a certain Julieta Pearson filed a petition to cancel his senate bid.
According to Pearson, there was a “misrepresentation” in the certificate of candidacy of Tulfo when he did not state her as his spouse.
Jimenez said that “there is only one ground for cancellation [of COC], which is material misrepresentation.”
Pearson stressed that she and Tulfo got married in October 1982 in Capaz, Tarlac and their nuptials were allegedly never nullified.
“This misrepresentation in his certificate of candidacy was done by him fully aware that he is not legally married to his declared wife in the COC, Jocelyn Pua Tulfo,” the petition noted.
It was in 2019 when Raffy Tulfo admitted that he had a child with Pearson, a party-list representative.
In case the petition succeeds, he might face disqualification despite the fact he’s among those leading in the 2022 senatorial elections.
Raffy Tulfo’s camp has yet to comment on the issue.
