Chavit Singson backs out from vice gubernatorial seat against his son Ryan
CHAVIT SINGSON – The incumbent mayor of Narvacan withdrew his candidacy against his son Ryan for Ilocos Sur vice gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
The two filed their certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, October 1 at the Commission on Elections provincial office in Vigan City.
Chavit filed his COC with his brother and running mate, Vice Governor Jerry Singson, and son, Ronald, who’s seeking a Congressional seat in the coming polls. On the other hand, Ryan filed his COC for vice governor alongside his running mate and wife Patch Savellano Singson.
Ryan will run the said post under the Bileg Party while his father Chavit will run under the National People’s Coalition.
But in a dramatic turn of events, Chavit Singson withdrew his candidacy.
In an interview with the members of the press, he stressed that there was a “miscommunication” within their family. But according to him, Ronald and Ryan have already settled their issues.
Aside from Chavit, Ryan’s wife Patch also withdrew her candidacy. Therefore, Jerry’s candidacy will become unopposed.
Chavit was the governor of the province of Ilocos Sur, starting from 1972 until 1986, again from 1992 until 2001, 2004 until 2007, and from 2010 until 2013.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections will post a tentative list of candidates on October 29.
On the other hand, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022. The nationwide elections are scheduled to be held on May 9.
