Paulo Avelino reacts to police chase incident involving Jake Cuenca
PAULO AVELINO – The actor defended his fellow Kapamilya star Jake Cuenca after the latter was involved in a police chase incident on October 9, 2021.
On Sunday night, October 10, Paulo took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter wherein he said that if he was Jake, he would probably continue to drive, especially since he didn’t know that the police were chasing him.
Police chased Jake around 9 p.m. of Saturday night after the actor, who was riding his SUV, allegedly collided with the vehicle used by the police conducting a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong.
In an interview, Eastern Police District (EPD) director Police Brigadier General Matthew Baccay said Jake allegedly did not stop so the police chased him until he reached Shaw Boulevard which is already part of Pasig City.
Baccay confirmed that there was also a stray bullet victim that night because of the incident. He said the police had to disable the vehicle Jake was driving so they fired a gun, causing a stray bullet to hit a Grab driver.
In the comment section of Paulo’s post, a netizen asked if Jake was really drunk while he’s driving. He said Jake wasn’t drunk that night. He also refuted allegations that his friend ran over or hurt someone.
According to another netizen, Jake should have stopped when he was pulled over by the police. But Paulo Avelino said that Jake’s car did not even have a trace of the collision, based on the photos spreading on social media.
Based on the article published by PEP.ph, Jake allegedly bumped into a private vehicle of a policeman and not an official police car.
Baccay also said that nothing illegal was found inside Cuenca’s SUV. However, Jake will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.
As for the Grab driver who was hit by a stray bullet, he is said to be in “stable condition”.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to find out who fired the gun and whether the police’s standard operating procedure was followed.
Jake Cuenca’s camp has yet to issue any statement regarding the incident.
