Authorities have been monitoring Sonsona for a long time for allegedly pushing illegal drugs.

He was even advised by other boxers to stop his drug addiction because that is where his boxing income goes.

Eden Sonsona could not be reached for comment due to the health protocols being enforced in the prison.

Sonsona last fought on March 17, 2021 in General Santos City but lost to Rimar Metuda of Cagayan de Oro City.

In May 2015, Eden Sonsona won the WBC international super featherweight title after defeating Mexico’s Adrian Estrella via technical knockout.
