Noli de Castro to make a political comeback
NOLI DE CASTRO – The veteran broadcaster confirmed that he will run for senator in the 2022 elections.
Many showbiz personalities are trying their luck in the upcoming elections. One of their primary reasons for venturing into politics is to expand their platform in helping others.
Among those who recently filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are Bobby Andrews, Angelu de Leon, Raffy Tulfo, Ejay Falcon and to name a few.
Adding to the list of celebrities-turned-election hopefuls is no less than Noli de Castro.
But the journalist and anchorman who’s also known as Kabayan is not new in the world of politics.
It was in 2001 when he was elected to the Senate of the Philippines. From 2004 until 2010, he served as the 12th Vice President of the Philippines under then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
In a text message he sent to Abante, he confirmed that he will be running for senator in the upcoming polls.
According to him, he will file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) this coming Friday, October 8.
“File na ako ng COC this Friday after the 9am mass sa Quiapo. Thank you,” saad ni De Castro.
He will vie the said position as an independent candidate but under the tandem of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno at Doc Willie Ong.
Meanwhile, the filing of COC kicked off on Friday, October 1 and it will end on October 8.
The Commission on Elections will post a tentative list of candidates on October 29.
On the other hand, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022. The nationwide elections are scheduled to be held on May 9.
