President Duterte suggested that unvaccinated individuals should stay at home amidst the COVID-19 threat.
On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte suggested that unvaccinated individuals should stay at home amidst the COVID-19 threat.
In his weekly public address, President Duterte said that his suggestion was that those unvaccinated individuals shouldn’t go out of their respective homes until there’s a facility where they could get inoculated against COVID-19.
President Duterte also encouraged the public to get vaccinated as it will not allow the virus to prosper in a person’s body. Likewise, the President reminded them to keep their distance from other people.
Aside from this, President Duterte had asked Filipinos to heed his advice to keep on following health protocols against COVID-19 — including the wearing of face shields — for the reason that they voted for him to be the country’s leader in the first place.
“Sundin lang ninyo ako, tutal binoto ninyo akong presidente, milyon-milyon ang nag-like sa akin, ika nga. It’s an advice I’m giving you because I love you as a Filipino,” President Duterte said.
President Duterte’s statement came amidst the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines.

The President had approved an earlier recommendation to do away with the face shields but immediately restored the policy because of the threat of the Delta COVID-19 variant.
According to President Duterte, the government decided to keep the face shield policy because it’s still unknown how a person can get infected by the coronavirus disease aside from through the nose and eyes.
Moreover, President Duterte said that people shouldn’t feel bad about washing their hands in public, even after shaking someone else’s hand. According to the President, it’s one of the protection measures that the government was requiring them to do.
“If you have to do it, just do it for the simple reason that it’s one of the protection measures that government is requiring you to do. It is not discourteous, nowadays, to wash your hands with alcohol in public after shaking hands… It’s not parang bastos because that is really a measure that is needed by the times,” President Duterte said.
