In a statement, Senator Go reiterated that he left his fate to God, to the Dutertes (to President Duterte and Davao Mayor Sara Duterte) — whatever their political plans may be — and to the Filipino people whom he owed an opportunity to serve the Philippines.

Senator Go, however, said that the only thing that will make him change his mind about joining the presidential race in 2022 was if President Duterte was his vice president.

As I have said many times before, I leave my fate to God, to the Dutertes (kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Mayor Sara Duterte) — kung ano man po ang kanilang magiging desisyon sa pulitika — and to the Filipino people to whom I owe this opportunity to serve our country. Ang makapagbabago lang ng aking desisyon na tumakbo bilang Presidente ay kung si Tatay Digong ang aking magiging Bise Presidente. Dahil alam ko na yun ang magiging totoong ‘continuity,’” Senator Go said.

Senator Go also thanked PDP-Laban for supporting him, but he reiterated that he wasn’t interested in talking about politics amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Senator Go’s comment came following the move of PDP-Laban’s national executive council to endorse the “Go-Duterte tandem” for the 2022 elections.

PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag told INQUIRER.net that Senator Go and President Duterte were picked as the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, of PDP-Laban during the online meeting of the national executive council and officers last August 4.

According to Matibag, an official nomination — and a vote — will happen during the PDP-Laban’s national convention on September 8, a day that the party official dubbed as an “excited day”.

Matibag also said that the endorsement was among the three resolutions passed by the national executive council and officers during the said meeting, adding that “everybody was ecstatic and everybody was excited” when the endorsement was made.

Moreover, Matibag said that both Senator Go and President Duterte have yet to make a final decision on whether on not they would run as the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, for the 2022 elections.
