DOH Record on Delta Cases in PH Jump by 119

DOH – The Department of Health spoke on the total cases of the Delta variant detected in the Philippines now amid the increasing total cases.

Across the globe, several countries now are tightening their guards to prevent the entry of the Delta variant of COVID-19. It is known to be more transmissible compared to other variants of the coronavirus.

The Delta variant was first recorded in India. It caused the spike in coronavirus cases in India leading to the collapse of the country’s healthcare system. The hospitals could no longer accommodate all the patients and many died amid the shortage of resources for treatment.

In other countries like Indonesia, Thailand, United States, and Malaysia, the Delta variant also caused a spike in the COVID-19 cases. Several nations now are implementing travel restrictions.

The Philippines also recorded cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19. There are cases of Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and there are also local cases.

Previously, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed local transmissions of the Delta variant of COVID-19. It sparked alarm to the authorities and the people. The experts stressed that an action has to be made to prevent its spread.

Hospitals were asked by the local governments to prepare for a possible surge in the Delta cases. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, as of this writing, the total Delta cases in the Philippines according to DOH has reached 450. It was after the recent record of 119 new cases.

According to DOH, out of the 199 new cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19, 93 are local cases while 20 are ROFs. They are still determining whether the 6 cases are local or ROFs. Here is a breakdown of the 119 Delta cases recently recorded:

  • 31 in Western Visayas
  • 18 in Metro Manila
  • 18 in Central Luzon
  • 14 in Calabarzon
  • 8 in Northern Mindanao
  • 1 in Central Visayas
  • 1 in Eastern Samar
  • 1 in Zamboanga Peninsula
  • 1 in Cordillera

The Health Department said that 118 of the recently-recorded 119 cases of the Delta variant are considered as recovered while the other one is under verification now. Out of the total 450 Delta cases, 9 patients died while 428 are tagged as recovered.
