Dr. Del Rosario Says 3 Children Patients Intubated

CHILDREN PATIENTS AT PGH – Dr. Jonas del Rosario said that three (3) children are currently in critical condition at the Philippine General Hospital because of COVID-19.

Undeniably, the fight against COVID-19 in the Philippines now requires all the efforts that can be exerted. There are already local transmissions of the Delta variant in the country.

Currently the variant of concern, the Delta variant was first detected in India and it caused the surge in the coronavirus cases in the country, the collapse of the healthcare system, and massive deaths.

Indonesia and several other nations also recorded cases of the Delta variant. Its high transmissibility is alarming countries now.

In the Philippines, the increase in the COVID-19 cases and the presence of the Delta variant urged the national government to place Metro Manila under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for two weeks. It will be from August 6 to 20.

Hospitals were asked to prepare for a possible surge in the cases. The COVID-19 exempts no one. Based on a report in ABS-CBN News, a newborn and 7 other children patients are admitted at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) due to COVID-19.

Unfortunately, according to Dr. Jonas del Rosario, 6 of the children patients are considered either in a severe or critical condition. Three (3) of them are intubated or under ventilator support.

Two (2) of the kids are in a moderate condition while the others need oxygen support. With regards to the baby, based on the report, the newborn was referred to PGH for a heart condition but the infant was found positive for COVID-19. The mother tested negative.

PGH has sent the samples of the children for genome sequencing and awaits results. More updates may be posted soon.
