Celeste Legaspi: “It speaks of the love that can be taken away by a fickle public.”
CELESTE LEGASPI – The veteran singer and theater actress revealed the story behind PNoy’s favorite song “Minsan Ang Minahal Ay Ako.”
On June 24, 2021, former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III passed away at the age of 61 due to renal failure caused by diabetes.
During a funeral mass held at the Church of the Gesu, his sister Kris Aquino revealed that the song “Minsan Minahal Ay Ako” popularized by Celeste Legaspi was one of the favorite songs of her brother.
“The whole of last night, while we were in Heritage, hinahanap ng staff there’s one song in particular that Noy had been listening to over and over again, and I was told that it was his favorite,” she said.
“And I think we spent three hours trying to research the song, it was originally done by Celeste but it was the [Ice] Seguerra version that Noy had liked so much,” she added.
After learning that it was one of the favorite songs of PNoy, Celeste Legaspi took to social media to share the story behind it.
“It speaks of the love that can be taken away by a fickle public. But the love of the performer for her audience through the years remains pure and real even when forgotten,” she wrote.
The song was composed by Jose Javier “Joey” Reyes and Ryan Cayabyab and was used for the musical Katy!.
