Former Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay hopes that the court’s verdict against former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV in connection with the latter’s accusations against him in 2015 will serve as a warning.
On Monday, Trillanes was found guilty in the libel case filed by Binay.
It can be recalled that Trillanes once told the media that Binay paid some Court of Appeals justices to favor him in the previous case he’s involved.
Because he is guilty of libel, Trillanes will pay Binay P500,000 for moral damages, and P100,000 as a fine in court.
“Sana sa desisyong ito ng hukuman ay matigil na ang marumi at mapanirang politika na itinataguyod ni Trillanes. Sana ay matigil na ang pagpaparatang ng walang katibayan na ang layunin lang ay siraan ang mga kaaway sa politika,” he said.
“The decision is a reminder to Trillanes that being a senator is not a license to destroy reputations. He has clearly abused his power as a senator and the decision establishes that beyond doubt,” he added.
