In a televised briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte and some Cabinet officials, Galvez said that they’re targeting to start the vaccination of the general public by August once vaccines arrived in the country.

Galvez’s projections for when inoculations for the general population can start had moved back more than once.

Last month, Galvez expressed confidence that the general population would begin getting their COVID-19 vaccine doses in late April or early May 2021. Then earlier this month, the vaccine czar said that the vaccination of the general public could start in July 2021.

According to Galvez, they’re targeting to finish inoculating those under priority groups A1 to A3 by July this year.

Hopefully kapag mayroon na po tayong volume sa June, sisimulan na po natin ‘yong A4 at tsaka A5,” Galvez also said.

The Department of Health (DOH) said that as of April 27, 2021, the Philippines had fully inoculated 246,986 individuals against COVID-19 nearly two months since the launch of the inoculation campaign.

In addition, the Department of Health reported in its latest vaccine statistics bulletin that 1,562,815 people have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines and a total of 1,809,801 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered at 3,415 vaccination sites across the Philippines.
