A barangay tanod (village watchman) in Barangay Malapad Cogon, Sigma town in Capiz died after being hit by a stone on the head by his own nephew.
According to the Sigma PNP, the victim identified as Digno Olithao was 53 years old and a resident of the area.
Based on the investigation, the two had an exchange of arguments while walking with a friend.
In the middle of the argument, the suspect apparently grabbed a stone and threw it on the victim’s head.
Due to the intense blow, the tanod collapsed and lost consciousness.
Olithao was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival by the doctor after accumulating a severe head injury.
Authorities also found that the two had been drinking alcohol when the incident happened.
Their past rift is perceived to be the motive for the crime.
The responding authorities immediately arrested the suspect who is now facing homicide charges.
