Poor Farmer Claims He Did Not Get Assistance from Government After Typhoon Rolly Destroyed his Livelihood
A poor farmer expressed his sentiments for failing to receive help from the government after Typhoon Rolly destroyed his livelihood.
Over the past few week, different regions in the Philippines particularly in Luzon has been struck by series of typhoons including Typhoon Quinta, Typhoon Rolly, and Typhoon Ulysses. The strings of typhoons affect thousands of Filipino people.
Typhoon Ulysses causes severe flooding in parts of Luzon including Marikina City, Cagayan, and Isabela. The record-breaking flood destroyed numerous houses and left residents with little or nothing to start with.
A farmer identified as Cris has expressed his sentiments for not receiving immediate assistance from the government after Typhoon Rolly hits Bagamanoc, Catanduanes. He is hoping that the government could still reach them within the next few days.
Cris stressed out that the government finds it difficult to provide assistance to their town, which might be the farthest area in Manila. He also expressed his dismay for not receiving goods while other areas were able to receive relief packs.
“Ito yata ang lugar na pinakamalayo na siguro sa Maynila kaya siguro ang tulong na nakakarating dito siguro kaunti. Hindi ko nga alam kung bakit e. Lahat naman tayo dinaanan ng unos,” Cris said.
Catanduanes is the biggest producer of Abaca in the Philippines. Typhoon Rolly causes damage to about 27,000 hectares of Abaca plantation.
