A security officer at NAIA was accused of stealing money from a foreign passenger
THEFT – A female personnel from the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) was caught on camera allegedly pocketing money stolen from a foreigner at NAIA Terminal 1.
In a photo, the woman can be seen swallowing money worth $300, approximately equivalent to P17,000. The incident occurred on September 8, 2023.
The screener at NAIA was exposed after a foreigner, whose identity remains undisclosed, reported the loss of their money. The departing passenger noticed that their wallet had been left open, and their $300 had vanished.
Evidently, the OTS personnel panicked, leading her supervisor to instruct her to swallow the money in an attempt to avoid detection during a search. According to the OTS, they have identified the personnel involved in the incident. OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma.O Aplasca urged informants to promptly report any illegal activities within their ranks.
“Tayo mismo, ipinakulong natin ‘yung sarili nating tao. We even reported them to the public para huwag pamarisan ng iba. Iniutos rin natin yung removal ng jackets at ng bulsa ng kanilang uniform, as a preventive measure para maiwasan yung nakawan, pero it seems na mayroon pang iilan na natitirang hindi gumagawa ng maganda,” said Aplasca.
The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) in the Philippines is the central authority responsible for ensuring the security of various transportation systems in the country, including civil aviation, sea transport, maritime infrastructure, land transportation, and rail systems. This role is in line with international standards outlined in the Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as the Chicago Convention, which established the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to govern international air commerce and ensure safe navigation of the skies.
