PURA LUKA VEGA – Several provinces, cities, and towns have declared the controversial drag artist Persona Non Grata.
This was a result of a video in which he danced to the remix version of “Ama Namin” while dressed as Jesus Christ. Consequently, his act garnered significant criticism from netizens, politicians, celebrities, and religious groups.
He was subsequently declared “persona non grata” in various local government units (LGUs), signifying that he was “unwelcome” in those areas.
Here are the places that have declared Pura Luka Vega persona non grata:
Floridablanca, Pampanga
The Municipal Council of Floridablanca, Pampanga declared Pura as persona non grata on July 17, one week after posting a video of his “Ama Namin” drag performance on social media.
Based on a resolution passed by the city council of General Santos City, Pura’s performance reportedly did not sit well with the Christian population in the city.
According to Councilor Richard Jaojoco, who authored the resolution, he himself felt affected by the actions of the drag artist.
The resolution stated that Pura’s drag performance was not only deemed “blasphemous” but also considered “offensive,” disrespectful, insulting, and audacious to the Christian religion and beliefs.
Fifth District Councilor Ricardo “Boy” Isip, the author of the resolution, described Pura’s actions as a “kalapastanganan.”
Nueva Ecija
The Provincial Council of Nueva Ecija passed a resolution stating that many Christian believers were “hurt” by Pura’s “offensive” drag performance.
Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, the principal author of the resolution approved by the City Council of Cagayan de Oro, referred to Pura’s actions as “sacrilegious,” “disrespectful,” and a violation of Article 133, Section 4, or “Offending the Religious Feelings” of the Revised Penal Code.
Laguna board member Christian Niño Lajara recently shared that all members of the Laguna Provincial Council decided to declare Pura persona non grata in their province.
Based on a resolution written by Councilor Pastor ‘Jun’ Alcover Jr. and approved by the Cebu City Council, Pura’s performance was considered “offensive” and “disrespectful” to the social and cultural values related to the religious beliefs of Cebuanos.
Dinagat Islands
According to Board Member Regivvi Amor Alcaria, the author of the resolution in Dinagat Islands, Pura’s drag performance can be deemed “blasphemous,” “disrespectful,” and “offensive” to the image of God.
Occidental Mindoro
The resolution passed by the Provincial Council of Occidental Mindoro stated that Pura’s performance could be seen as “paglalapastangan” of the Catholic Church and the religions that honor Jesus Christ.
Vice Governor Anecita Diana Apigo-Tayag noted that this decision could serve as a lesson so that others would not emulate Pura’s actions.
Lucena City, Quezon Province
According to Lucena City Councilor Benito Brizuela Jr., the resolution deemed the drag queen’s performance “disrespectful” and “blasphemous.”
Mandaue City, Cebu
Based on a resolution authored by City Councilor Malcolm Sanchez, Pura’s drag performance was considered “highly offensive” and “disrespectful” to the Christian faith.
Bohol
The resolution passed by the province and shared by Bohol Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite on his Facebook post stated that Pura’s performance caused “offense” to Catholics.
According to Batangas City Councilor Boy Dimacuha, the author of the city’s resolution, Pura allegedly abused his “freedom of expression,” which he believed should have limitations.
