Coco Martin Answers Issues About the Taping of Batang Quiapo in Quiapo

Here’s the response of Coco Martin to issues about Batang Quiapo’s taping in Quiapo

COCO MARTIN – The actor-director answered the issues about the taping of FPJ’s Batanga Quiapo in Quiapo, Manila.

There were online rumors circulating that some vendors in Quiapo, Manila were losing their income due to the shooting of the popular Kapamilya series in the area. This might have prompted Coco to comment on the matter. During the Thanksgiving media conference on May 4, 2023, he acknowledged that this type of issue is a common occurrence in the entertainment industry, not just in the Philippines, but also in other countries.

He gave an example of how people visit restaurants or parks abroad where films or soap operas were shot. Similarly, in the Philippines, many movies and soap operas have transformed their filming locations into tourist attractions. Coco stated that it’s unavoidable, especially with the rapid and easy formation of opinions through social media. While some people may not support the series or Batang Quiapo, many are pleased to see them there.

Charo Santos-Concio, who plays Tindeng, Tanggol’s grandmother in the series, sat next to Coco during the conference. She noted that the production team was respectful of the people and the area, and she didn’t feel unwelcome during the filming. Lorna Tolentino, who also appears in the series, claimed that she didn’t encounter any negative effects while filming in Quiapo or the previous series, “Ang Probinsyano.”

Ronnie Lazaro, another actor in the series, added that filming in Quiapo was challenging, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the locals. Besides Coco, Charo, Lorna, and Ronnie, other casts present at the media conference included Lovi Poe, Christopher de Leon, John Estrada, Cherry Pie Picache, McCoy de Leon, and Lou Veloso.
