Philippine Media Loses Veteran Broadcaster Jimmy Gil
Veteran broadcaster Jaime Federico Gil, more widely known as Jimmy Gil, has passed away at the age of 79. He died on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at around 9:25 in the morning. His remains are set to be brought to Arlington Memorial Chapels & Crematory on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, where family, friends, and colleagues will pay their final respects.
Gil is survived by his wife, Atty. Anna Katrina Sy, along with his six children and eleven grandchildren. His passing has left a deep sense of loss among his loved ones and the media community he served for decades.
The GMA Network expressed its condolences to Gil’s family, honoring his long and dedicated service to the organization. He began working with the network in 1979 as a news writer for dZBB and later became a television reporter in 1982. Throughout his career, he also served as co-anchor for various programs, including weekend evening news broadcasts alongside the late Raffy Marcelo.

He also occasionally co-anchored news programs with veteran journalist Tina Monzon-Palma during the 1980s and 1990s. Before his passing, Gil was still active in broadcasting through his radio program “Jimmy Gil Live!”, where he continued to share news and commentary despite his health condition.
Gil was widely respected for his clear and distinctive voice, as well as his ability to deliver news with professionalism and credibility. Over the years, he built a strong reputation as one of the trusted voices in Philippine broadcasting.

In 2017, Gil made headlines when he became a father again at the age of 70. In past interviews, he shared that the news of his wife’s pregnancy came as a surprise, especially since he already had five grown children and several grandchildren. He described it as an unexpected blessing that changed his life, expressing joy and disbelief at becoming a father again later in life.
