Raffy Tulfo Seeks Financial Aid for OJT and Internship Students
RAFFY TULFO – The senator has filed Senate Bill No. 2157, also known as the “Student Internship Allowance Act,” which aims to provide financial support to students undergoing on-the-job training (OJT), internship, or practicum. The proposed measure seeks to give qualified students a one-time ₱10,000 allowance after they complete the required internship hours as part of their academic or training requirements.
The bill is designed to help ease the financial burden of students who spend their own money on transportation, food, and other daily expenses while training in different companies. According to the proposal, many interns contribute valuable work to organizations but do not always receive financial compensation, making it difficult for some students and their families to manage training-related costs.
Senator Tulfo explained that the idea for the bill came from numerous requests for assistance received through his public service program, where students and their families shared struggles about unpaid internships and the rising cost of daily expenses during OJT. He emphasized that the financial assistance would help cover basic needs, especially transportation, and provide relief to students from low-income households.

Under the proposed measure, the allowance would be available to students from both public and private higher education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education, as well as technical-vocational institutions accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. It would apply to students who are required to complete internships, practicum work, or OJT as part of their graduation or certification requirements.

Senator Tulfo is urging his fellow lawmakers to support the bill, saying it would provide meaningful assistance to students across different fields. He stressed that helping interns financially would not only benefit students but also support their families and encourage more young people to complete their training without being held back by financial difficulties.
