Raffy Tulfo Confirms He Will Not Run for President in 2028

Raffy Tulfo Stands Firm on His Decision Not to Seek the Presidency in 2028

RAFFY TULFO – The senator has firmly stated that he will not run for president in the 2028 elections, emphasizing that his decision is final.

Despite being considered a strong potential candidate and even tying with Sara Duterte in a Pulse Asia survey, Tulfo made it clear that he prefers to continue serving in his current role. He expressed gratitude for the public’s trust but explained that he believes he can be more effective as a senator, where he feels he still has much to accomplish. Instead of aiming for a higher position, he plans to seek reelection in 2028.

Tulfo also shared that he wants to avoid the common mistake of some first-term officials who immediately pursue higher office and end up falling short. For him, public service is not defined by position but by the ability to serve people well. He added that the presidency comes with greater pressure and challenges, which he is not interested in taking on at this point. He also ruled out the possibility of running for vice president, saying he is satisfied with his current role.

While stepping aside from the presidential race, Tulfo mentioned several names he believes could be strong candidates, including Leni Robredo, Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, and Antonio Trillanes IV, among others. He also said he is open to endorsing a candidate who shares his principles when the time comes.

Meanwhile, Hontiveros acknowledged the survey results but stressed that they do not determine the outcome of elections. She pointed out that many factors can still change before 2028 and emphasized that Filipinos are currently more concerned with everyday issues such as rising fuel prices, expensive goods, high electricity costs, and unemployment. She remains open to running for president and is hopeful that the United Opposition will decide on a candidate by late 2026.
