John Lapus Reacts to Emotional Speech of Pia Cayetano After Senate Shooting Incident

Pia Cayetano Breaks Down After Senate Shooting Incident, John Lapus Reacts Online

JOHN LAPUS – The comedian and director reacted to the emotional speech of Senator Pia Cayetano after a shooting incident inside the Senate building on May 13.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared a short message suggesting that even when someone is already crying, people still do not seem to believe them. He did not mention any name, but many social media users connected his post to the senator’s emotional moment during a Senate session. “Grabe no? Kahit umiiyak na, wala pa ding naniniwala,” he wrote.

Lapus also reposted a parody or joke image made like a drama movie poster, showing Senators Pia Cayetano, Camille Villar, and Loren Legarda in an emotional group scene. The fake poster jokingly said he directed the “episode,” which made him respond again to clear things up. He said he had nothing to do with it and asked people not to blame or attack him because of the joke.

The issue online came after Senator Pia Cayetano became emotional during a Senate meeting while talking about the shooting incident, where more than 30 gunshots were reportedly heard inside the Senate area. She shared how scared she was and explained that she and other senators had to hide in a room during the incident. Her reaction came after Senator Risa Hontiveros commented that the Senate seemed calm or not strongly affected after the event, which Cayetano found hurtful.

Senator Cayetano, sister of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano, defended her reaction and said the experience was very scary and serious. She stressed that people should not treat it lightly and expressed disappointment over how it was described in public.
