Iloilo City Council Wants Juan Karlos to Apologize
JUAN KARLOS – The Iloilo City Council has called for the singer to issue a public apology after using profane language during his performance at the Dinagyang Festival 2025 on January 24. The controversy arose when he sang his song ERE, which the city’s mayor deemed inappropriate for a religious event like Dinagyang.
The council’s decision is supported by the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI). According to IFFI, a private event organizer invited Juan Karlos to be a guest performer. They admitted that they do not always review the setlists of performers since their primary focus is ensuring the event’s security.
In response to the incident, IFFI assured the public that they would implement stricter screening processes for future performers to ensure that festival presentations align with the event’s cultural and religious significance.
Meanwhile, Juan Karlos Labajo, also known as JK Labajo, is a singer, musician, and actor. He gained recognition at the age of 13 when he finished third in the first season of The Voice Kids in 2014. Labajo is the frontman and primary songwriter of the band Juan Karlos and has released multiple albums both as a solo artist and with his band.
His song ERE is about the pain of betrayal and the struggle of moving on after a failed relationship. The lyrics express deep frustration, anger, and sadness as the singer conveys his emotions about being hurt by someone he loved. The song also touches on feelings of bitterness and disappointment over the relationship’s end.
With its strong language and raw emotions, the song is powerful and relatable for those who have experienced heartbreak. It became popular for its honest and expressive lyrics, which resonate with many listeners.
