Traffic Enforcer Collapses While Directing Traffic, Dies
DAGUPAN CITY – A traffic enforcer in the Bangus Capital of the Philippines collapsed and died while managing traffic under the scorching heat of the sun.
A traffic enforcer is responsible for managing and regulating the flow of vehicles to ensure road safety and reduce congestion. They are typically employed by government agencies such as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), local government units (LGUs), or other transport authorities.
Their primary duties include directing traffic, especially at busy intersections or during peak hours, and ensuring that drivers and pedestrians comply with traffic laws. Traffic enforcers issue citations or tickets for violations such as illegal parking, running a red light, or driving without proper documentation.
They also assist during emergencies, such as road accidents, by coordinating with authorities and clearing obstructions. Additionally, they play an educational role, informing the public about traffic regulations and participating in road safety campaigns. Traffic enforcers help maintain public order by resolving disputes among road users and reporting issues like damaged traffic signs or hazardous road conditions to the appropriate authorities.
Despite their critical role, they face challenges such as managing heavy traffic in congested areas like Metro Manila, dealing with uncooperative motorists, and enduring harsh weather and pollution. Traffic enforcers are essential to maintaining discipline and ensuring safety on Philippine roads.
