Bato Dela Rosa In Tears Over Juan Miiguel Zubiri’s Resignation As Senate President
BATO DELA ROSA – Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa was moved to tears upon listening to the farewell speech of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Senator Ronald Dela Rosa was brought to tears during Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri’s farewell speech, following Zubiri’s decision to resign from his position on Monday (May 20).
Zubiri, tearfully, bid farewell to his role after losing the support of his colleagues in the 24-member upper chamber.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri became emotional during his speech as he thanked his “leadership team” – Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda, Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, and Senators JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Sonny Angara.
Zubiri addressed Dela Rosa, acknowledging his steadfast support, saying, “To Bato Dela Rosa, who stuck it out with me to the very end. I salute you sir.”
Dela Rosa was observed shedding tears and saluting Zubiri in return.
It is widely believed that Zubiri’s removal was influenced by his decision to authorize Senator Dela Rosa to investigate an alleged leaked drug operation report implicating President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in drug-related activities.
In his farewell speech, Zubiri hinted that he lost his position because he may have unsettled certain factions and challenged the established authority by prioritizing the independence of his fellow senators.
Subsequently, Legarda and Villanueva resigned from their leadership positions, while Ejercito, Binay, and Angara relinquished their committee chairmanships to pave the way for new leadership.
Veteran Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero was elected to take over Zubiri’s role as Senate President.
