Calvin Abueva faces suspension and a fine for flashing a dirty finger
CALVIN ABUEVA – The Magnolia veteran was suspended and fined by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after giving a dirty finger gesture to a Ginebra fan during their game at the Araneta Coliseum on March 31.
Abueva was slapped with a one-game suspension and a ₱20,000 fine, after Commissioner Willie Marcial summoned him to the PBA office on Wednesday regarding the incident. The issue stemmed from a collision between Abueva and Ginebra guard Nards Pinto with only 1:51 remaining in the first quarter.
As a result of the collision, Abueva kneeled down until he was seen engaging in an altercation with a fan seated in the courtside VIP seats, where he made the dirty finger gesture. Unbeknownst to Abueva, he was caught on national television.
Abueva said the fan insulted him and he was merely retaliating. In that game, the Gin Kings defeated Magnolia, 87-77.
