At the Cagsawa Festival, a stroke survivor won a brand-new car in a raffle
LUCKY RAFFLE WINNER – A stroke survivor won a brand-new car in a raffle at the Cagsawa Festival in Daraga, Albay.
William Mendioro, 61, the lucky winner of a brand-new car at the raffle held during the Cagsawa Festival in Daraga, Albay, lined up with his wife Marissa, 54, to obtain free tickets for the raffle bonanza sponsored by Sorsogon Governor Jose Edwin Hamor.
William, a stroke survivor, along with his wife, patiently queued along Duterte Highway in Daraga where tickets were distributed, among the crowd hoping to win the prize of a brand-new Toyota Wigo. Despite being a stroke survivor, William expressed his determination to win, stating, “Hindi ako mahilig sa raffle dahil hindi naman ako nananalo. Pero may kutob ako sa raffle na ito na mananalo ako kaya tiniyaga ko talagang pumila.”
On February 28, at around 9:00 p.m., the raffle draw took place, and William’s intuition proved right as he emerged as the winner, bringing joy to others who aspired to win as well. William, a father of five and the sole breadwinner of his family, was considered well-deserving of the win by those close to him, including his sister-in-law Crisanta, 28, who expressed her happiness upon learning of William’s victory, stating, “Para po makapagsimula siyang muli pagkatapos ng hirap na dinanas nila ng kanyang pamilya mula nang siya ay magkasakit.”
In August 2022, William suffered a mild stroke, affecting his speech and mobility. Despite facing financial difficulties due to his illness, William remained determined to recover for the sake of his family, gradually improving his condition. Learning about the raffle from a client who rented his multicab, William immediately decided to get a ticket.
When asked about his plans for the car, William initially considered selling it to invest in his business, but he was persuaded by his children to keep it. He happily expressed, “Ngayon ay gusto ko munang ipasyal ang aking pamilya gamit ang kotse para ma-enjoy namin itong biyaya sa amin.”
