Pura Luka Vega Released From Detention After Paying Bail

PURA LUKA VEGA – Drag artist Pura Luka Vega was released from police custody after paying bail of PHP360,000.

Drag artist Pura Luka Vega, also known as Amadeus Fernando Pagente, was once again arrested by the Manila Police District (MPD). The charges against Pura stemmed from his controversial “Ama Namin” or “The Lord’s Prayer” performance at a bar on July 10, 2023, where he donned a costume resembling the Black Nazarene.

The announcement of Pura’s arrest was made by Rod Singh, the showrunner of Drag Den, on his Twitter account on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Singh revealed that Pura needed PHP360,000 for bail.

In response, a fundraising event was organized to collect funds for Pura Luka Vega’s bail and other legal expenses. Pura had initially been arrested at his home in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on October 4, 2023, following his failure to attend the preliminary investigations related to the criminal complaint filed by devotees of the Black Nazarene or Hijos del Nazareno Central.

Pura managed to secure bail immediately, and on the night of Friday, March 1, 2024, he announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he was now free after his team paid the PHP360,000 bail.

He shared, “I was released on bail today. Honestly, I got to learn more about my cellmates and their stories and much more. Because of what is happening and through the support and explanations of my lawyers, I now feel comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life.”

Expressing gratitude to those who aided in his swift release, Pura stated, “Tuloy pa rin ang laban, tuloy pa rin ang buhay. Lubos ang pasasalamat ko sa mga tumulong saken sa bail ko.”

“To my drag sisters na walang sawang tumulonga saken at nag-organize ng fund raising for legal fees, maraming maraming salamat sa inyo,” Pura added.
