Resort Built in the Middle of Chocolate Hills in Bohol Dismays Netizens
CHOCOLATE HILLS – Netizens couldn’t help but express their dismay at a resort built in the middle of the famous tourist attraction.
The Chocolate Hills are a geological formation located in the Bohol province of the Philippines. They consist of at least 1,260 hills, though there may be as many as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometers (20 sq mi). These hills are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name “Chocolate Hills.”
They are conical karst hills made of grass-covered limestone, formed by a combination of dissolution of limestone by rainfall, surface water, and groundwater, as well as subaerial erosion by streams after being uplifted above sea level and fractured by tectonic processes.
The Chocolate Hills are a famous tourist attraction in Bohol and are featured in the provincial flag and seal to symbolize the abundance of natural attractions in the province. They have been declared the country’s third National Geological Monument and proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The tourist attraction is trending on the microblogging site, X (formerly known as Twitter), not for its beauty but because of what netizens describe as an “eyesore.” Some social media users couldn’t help but express their dismay at a resort built in the middle of the tourist attraction.
The resort, Captain’s Peak, is situated in the middle of Chocolate Hills in Sagbayan, Bohol. It was first featured on social media by content creator Ren The Adventurer. However, netizens were not pleased with the resort built in the middle of the tourist attraction.
Several users expressed concerns and questions regarding the development within the Chocolate Hills area. One netizen emphasized the importance of development coexisting without damaging the area. Another netizen questioned the permission granted for the construction of a resort within the area, considering its status as a National Geological Monument and a proposed UNESCO World Heritage site.
As of press time, the resort has yet to issue any reaction regarding the backlash they’re receiving.
