DepEd clarifies that teachers and students are also allowed to wear duck hair clips
DUCK HAIR CLIPS – An official from the Department of Education (DepEd) clarified on Friday that teachers and students are also allowed to wear trendy clips when entering school.
It was noted that the hair clip trend originated in China in 2015, but instead of ducks, plants are adorned on it. In the Philippines, the duck hair clip reportedly became popular in Baguio City recently and quickly became a trend in other parts of the country.
Just after the Chinese New Year, most of the people who participated in the occasion in China Town in Manila wore duck hair clips. According to DepEd deputy spokesman Francis Bringas, he sees no problem if teachers and students want to follow the trend.
He even mentioned that he bought his duck hair clip in Binondo recently. Bringas explained that it is just a form of amusement and a hair accessory, which can be likened to a ribbon or headband.
In his opinion, he doesn’t think it will affect the class if teachers and students wear it.
“It’s just a fad. It’s a hair accessory, siguro it won’t hurt the class kung meron extra accessory sa ulo. I don’t think it will bothersome for many,” he said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo. He further added, “The teacher is the bigger motivator in the classroom…If he or she finds it really appropriate to get the learners to pay attention, so be it.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Education or DepEd is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for ensuring access to, promoting equity in, and improving the quality of basic education in the Philippines. The DepEd oversees the country’s public and private schools, as well as the education system from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
