Clarita Carlos seemed unfamiliar with Taylor Swift
CLARITA CARLOS – The former National Security Adviser seemed not to be familiar with the American pop star Taylor Swift.
Clarita Carlos is a Filipino political scientist and academic. She has served in various capacities, including as the National Security Adviser of the Philippines. It’s important to note that my information might be outdated, and there could have been developments or changes since then.
Taylor Swift is an American singer-songwriter and one of the most successful and recognized musicians globally. Born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift gained fame in the mid-2000s with her country music albums and later transitioned to pop music.
But it seemed that the former National Security Adviser was not familiar with Taylor Swift. The 78-year-old former UP teacher took to the social networking site Facebook, where she posted: “Sino si Taylor Swift? Huli yata ako sa balita…”
Carlos, an adviser to Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, made the post after the University of the Philippines announced that it would offer a course about Swift. The course is said to be an elective for the BA Broadcast Media Arts and Studies and can be taken by students starting the second semester of the academic year 2023-2024.
Some of Carlos’s followers took her post seriously. “I love her, Ma’am. She entered the music industry as a sweet young girl catapulted into the spotlight via You Tube. She is now an independent woman who takes a stand on many social issues,” said Lorelyn Galarrita Turtosa-Dumaug. “Once you get to know her, I am sure you will like her. I even support her reaction to a joke made about her,” Dumaug added.
Carlos responded, “Maybe a generational thing… she has a nice face.” Chona Morales invited Carlos to watch Swift’s concert. “American singer, manood tayo ng concert nya sa Tokyo, Japan nitong February,” said Morales. Some, however, did not take Carlos’s post seriously. “5th member po yata yan ng BlackPink” said Ramon Pascual. Wayne Jerome Agudelo Rigos jokingly commented, “Sasakyan po ata yan sa zusuki.”
