Senior Citizen E-Bike Driver Faces High Fine After Allegedly Committing Traffic Violation
BACOLOD CITY – A senior citizen E-bike driver earned the sympathy of the online community for facing high fines over traffic violations.
Aiai Cuizon Solito, a Facebook user, shared the heartbreaking photos of a senior citizen e-bike driver holding a citation for violating a traffic rule. The post garnered various reactions from the internet users.
According to Solito, the e-bike rider identified as Rene National was caught without any prior warning and slapped with a hefty fine of P1200. The elderly, in an attempt to pay the fine, had to break open their hard-earned savings stored in the coin bank.
Unfortunately, the authorities showed no mercy, causing many to question Mayor Albee Benitez and the humanity of those who apprehended the elderly man.
It appears that the e-bike rider was just trying to make ends meet by using his electronic-driven bike. However, instead of understanding the struggle to make a meager daily income of around P300 pesos, the rider was fined an amount of P1200.
The daily income of P300 is barely sufficient to cover basic needs, and having to pay a fine of P1200 pesos further worsens the financial strain on the elderly man. The recent increase from a P200 fine to the current P1200 penalty seems to add insult to injury.
Residents express their hope for understanding and consideration from local authorities. Instead of facing such hefty fines without warning, they wish for a more compassionate approach.
Perhaps a dialogue between the local government and the residents can lead to a fairer resolution that takes into account the economic challenges faced by the Filipino people.
This incident raises concerns about the challenges faced by hardworking drivers due to the soaring prices of basic commodities, particularly rice.
