Here’s the latest update on Typhoon Jenny according to PAGASA

TYPHOON JENNY – PAGASA announced via its latest bulletin issued at 5 AM today, October 2, 2023, that #JennyPH intensified into a typhoon over the Philippine sea

It is traversing Northwestward at 10 km/h and has maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and central pressure of 975 hPa. The center of the eye of Typhoon Jenny was estimated at 655 km East of Aparri, Cagayan or 665 km East of Calayan, Cagayan (17.9°N, 127.8°E).

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 1 has been raised in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Lal-Lo, Baggao, Gattaran, Peñablanca), and the eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan).

Meanwhile, the weather advisory provides an overview of the hazards posed by Typhoon Jenny in specific regions. These hazards encompass heavy rainfall, with expected accumulations of 50-200 mm in regions like Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and northern mainland Cagayan, particularly posing a threat to mountainous areas prone to flooding and landslides.

Additionally, Jenny’s influence will amplify the Southwest Monsoon, leading to prolonged rainfall in Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao over the next three days. Concerns about severe winds are evident, with wind signals indicating potential threats, especially along coastal and mountainous areas. A Gale Warning is in effect for the coastal waters of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, while rough seas are anticipated off mainland Cagayan.

Jenny’s projected path suggests a potential landfall in Taiwan, with expected intensification followed by a potential weakening trend near Taiwan. On the other hand, the advisory urges the public and disaster management authorities to take necessary precautions and emphasizes following evacuation instructions, and monitoring local weather warnings.
