Badjao Student’s Gift to his Teacher Touches the Hearts of Netizens

Netizens are touched by the gift of a Badjao student to his teacher

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY – The gift of a Grade 1 Badjao student to his teacher as a “token of appreciation” has touched the hearts of netizens.

In a Facebook post, teacher Dennis F. Gerodias, 29, from Brgy. Dolho, Bato, Leyte shared that his student John Bryan Sabrani approached him early in the morning before their class started. The young student gave him a flower as a gift to celebrate Teacher’s Day, explaining that it was the only gift he could afford since he had no money. This gesture deeply touched Teacher Dennis, but it became even more heartwarming when he learned why John Bryan was barefoot.

Teacher Dennis shared, “This morning, one of my students, a Badjao, approached me and said, ‘Sir, I don’t have a gift for you today because we don’t have money, but I picked flowers to give to you, sir.” I noticed that he didn’t have slippers or shoes, so I asked him, ‘Why don’t you have slippers?’ He replied, ‘I was in a hurry, sir, so I wouldn’t be late for class to give this to you.’ (Almost every day, I always noticed this child going to school barefoot.)”

The teacher was moved to tears by the child’s initiative and expressed, “That time, I didn’t know, but my tears fell knowing the child’s initiative just to give me flowers. This might be the most beautiful way to start my day. The type of gift doesn’t matter; what’s more important is the effort the child made to express his love for his teacher..”

Teacher Dennis also vowed that if he has the means in the future, he will buy slippers or shoes for the students, especially those who don’t have them. In an interview, Teacher Dennis, who teaches Grade 1 at Dolho Elementary School, emphasized his dedication to his students and urged fellow educators to keep their passion alive despite the challenges. As of writing, his viral Facebook post has received 5.6k likes, 1.9k shares, and 215 comments.
