Director Joey Reyes Reacts to Criminal Case Filed Against Vice Ganda

Here’s the reaction of Joey Reyes on the criminal case filed against Vice Ganda

JOEY REYES – The veteran director reacted to the criminal case filed against Vice Ganda.

The Unkabogable Comedian will be honored at the 3rd Philippine Film Industry Month (PFIM) closing ceremony on September 29, 2023, in Acacia Hotel Manila, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. During the Gala Night of the 3rd PFIM on September 16, Vice Ganda’s actions, particularly a cake icing incident on “It’s Showtime,” were questioned for being deemed “rude” and “immoral.”

Director Jose Javier Reyes, a technical consultant of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), commented on the situation, stating that he believes it’s an overreaction. He pointed out that worse things have happened on television and that social media’s influence on public opinion sometimes magnifies issues beyond reason.

“I feel it’s an overreaction. Yun ang sa akin lang, ha, it’s an overreaction because there are worse things that have been done in television,” he said. “Which can be more criminal in context than eating icing in their fingers, hindi ba?” he added.

He further explained that while he does not approve of what happened, he does not consider it a criminal act. He expressed sadness that many people have been involved in the controversy and highlighted the dangers of social media.

“I do not exactly approve of what they did. But not to the point of calling it a criminal act! Yeah, I mean it’s, maybe, mischievous. It may be out of context, but not to the point of calling it a criminal act. And it is so sad that so many people are being involved in it, OK. It’s so sad. In a way, it is unfair to Vice and to his partner.

Aside from Vice Ganda, other notable figures to be honored on the closing night of the 3rd PIFM include Michael V, Eugene Domingo, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Tito, Vic & Joey, and the late Comedy King, Dolphy. The theme of the month-long celebration is “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Tawanan,” with the FDCP taking the lead in organizing the event.
